|En Studie I Ensamhet (EP 2010)||By Vale-of-Mourning|
I found this EP in the download section of a blog (I don’t know if it was there with the bands approval but I downloaded it). Afterwards I found it also in other sites and in mail orders where it’s been promoted as a Depressive Ambient Black Metal, and because I know that this description brings to the mind of a Black Metal fan, Xasthur and I’m in a Coffin I decided to write something on this before someone spend money or in my case spend time for downloading…
Though, the only thing that they have succeeded in describing is Ambient and that’s because in every track there is a repeating melody as a background and the structure of every track begins from there, the rest of this EP is something between Katatonia – Discouraged Ones, the later works of Anathema with a great touch of Folk and the structure of the compositions touches Progressive. There are some Black Metal outbreaks but they are totally without even have the appropriate distortion in guitars. The vocals have much variety as they are clean male and female (which remind me of 3rd and the Mortal of the second era, after Kari Reuslatten) and Black Metal vocals, in every track. The tracks are very well played, melodic, they have paid much attention to the production and generally it’s a compact release, although it is not Black Metal and in my opinion this band will have a future IF… moves in the direction of Post Rock and leave the vocals to the girl because the guy is awful…
In conclusion, as an effort it is good and at least mentionable, but only for those that have that kind of taste...
